Many people see a
chiropractor because they want to get rid of neck and back pain. However, studies have shown that chiropractic care can be used to treat a variety of conditions. This includes things as varied as scoliosis and the common cold.
Chiropractic care can also improve blood flow. A lack of adequate blood flow can increase the risk of high blood pressure, nerve damage and many other illnesses. Migraines and dizziness can also result from poor circulation. Additionally, a lack of blood flow can increase the risk of a stroke.
There was a study done that involved patients who suffered from neck pain or back pain. There were 45 people in the study. The subjects had their brains scanned in order to assess blood flow. The people were placed in groups based on the severity of their pain. One group was for people with mild pain, the second group was for people with moderate pain, and the third group was for people who had severe pain.
The researchers found that the subjects who had mild pain had normal blood flow to all eight regions of the brain. The subjects with moderate pain had a 20 to 35 percent reduction in blood flow. The subjects who had severe pain had a 30 to 45 percent reduction in blood flow. The reduced blood flow was mostly in the parietal and frontal zones of the brain, which control mental health and memory.
The researchers also found that chiropractic adjustments can increase blood flow to the brain. A spinal adjustment increases blood flow by taking pressure off of the nerves. Chiropractors can use a variety of modalities including heat therapy, ultrasound, and massage. These treatments can promote blood flow, which helps the body get the oxygen and nutrients it needs.
